It took the Pandemic to Get Me Back to Basics

In the past we have had numerous vegetable gardens, big ones in the ground, small ones it large pots. As many of you may associate with, we had gotten away from vegetable gardening for a while. We moved to the Florida Keys, got a regular day job in Key West. We were both working a lot and buying grocery store produce. It didn't taste the same, but we were busy.

Then the COVID 19 pandemic hit. Since the government told everyone to stay home for that first month, we did. I was still working my professional job, but was lucky enough to be able to do it from home. The time saved driving the hour to work and hour home made me feel so much more relaxed and rested. I actually had some time to think about projects I would like to do.

A vegetable garden was the first idea that came to mind. This time I looked into hydroponic gardening. WOW, this was just the right solution for us. We have a huge deck that goes all around the house and we could do the garden on the deck. The "ground" in the Keys is coral rock, so the only way you could do a garden is a raised bed or a large pot, so a hydroponic system was the answer……….more on that later!
