Our Story
My Husband Ken and I were in the Detroit Automotive Advertising world originally, then we moved on to start a perennial garden design firm in Michigan. We created many English Gardens, formal landscaping, cutting gardens and planted thousands of spring flowering bulbs.
We have been vegetable gardening for years. We both planted gardens before we met and then we had a large garden in Oxford Michigan when we were married. We would grow a lot so it would last over the long Michigan winter. We would can different vegetables and store all those beautiful glass "cans" in an antique rustic cabinet that came with our 1836 Farmhouse.
When we moved to the Florida Keys, we left that rustic cabinet at the farm in Michigan. It came with the house when we bought it, so we thought it should stay with the house when we left.
We have always been interested in people having the skill and ability to grow some of their own food. Call it food security, but it just makes sense for people to know how to grow vegetables.
We also have been concerned for years about the pesticides and weed killers used in commercial agriculture.
Another area of concern is not eating genetically modified organisms (GMO's). We want the seeds God left for us, heirloom seeds not those made in a lab.
When we created the web address "sustainable kitchen garden" we loved the name because it means so much to different people:
sustainable kitchen garden
and now ………..
a garden to help feed our family while most Americans feel stress about the future of our country……….
Sustainable Kitchen Garden is all of those things. If we all grow some of our food, it provides food security, it helps us stay healthy, it helps Mother Earth and it is good clean fun! Join us in the wonders of growing plants, of watching the little baby eggplants grow, of marveling in nature itself. Come garden with us!

sustainable kitchen garden
- a garden to help feed your family if you encounter financial disasters
- a garden to feed your family if there is some kind of disaster like a war, terrorist attach, cyber attach or an attack on the US electrical grid
- a garden to sustain your ability, financially, to eat good organic food
- a garden to allow you to keep growing non-GMO, organic vegetables since the seeds become next years crops
- a garden to help you sustain good health by eating the right kinds of food
- a garden to help sustain the earth's environment, by taking one step to reduce trucks transporting food across the entire country for my household
and now ………..
a garden to help feed our family while most Americans feel stress about the future of our country……….
